Arsenal vs Bournemouth: Premier League preview

Reports of Arsenal's demise might be exaggerated. Talk of a quadruple in this day and age was always ridiculous, not to mention external to the Gunners anyway, and quickfire losses in the two domestic cups only tell half of that story.

Arsenal were beaten by Man City in the Carabao Cup final and then knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship play-off hopefuls Southampton but immediately headed off to Lisbon and came away with a Champions League quarter-final win against Sporting CP.

Before the second leg of that tie, Mikel Arteta's side must keep their focus on Premier League matters. A win against Bournemouth would be a big step forward mentally as well as in the points column.

Given Arsenal's historic dearth of success in the League Cup and abundance of FA Cup wins, you'd have to think their supporters would have taken that position at the start of the season.

The Gunners have already beaten Bournemouth this season, winning 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium at the start of January thanks to two goals from Declan Rice and one from Gabriel.

It certainly wasn't easy but Arsenal got the job done, as they have tended to in tricky away fixtures this season.

The only other team to beat the Cherries on their own patch in the league this season were Everton, who also won by a single goal on the south coast at the start of December.

Bournemouth are winless in five Premier League matches but look more closely and you'll see the Premier League's longest active unbeaten streak. At 11 matches, it's three longer than Arsenal's.
